The acquisition of ABN AMRO

In 2007, the opportunity arose for RBS to deepen and widen its international reach, when the Dutch bank ABN AMRO announced that it was in merger talks with another major UK bank. RBS moved quickly to assemble a consortium with a rival bid, only by October 2007 the offer of £48bn was declared unconditional. As a result of ABN AMRO acquisition, RBS is currently the oldest bank in Singapore today with a history of dating back more than 150 years. ABN AMRO opened its first office in Singapore 1858.

ABN AMRO N.V has been renamed to The Royal Bank of Scotland N.V since 06 Feb 2010.
